The 5R Program for Gut Restoration


You’ve probably heard the saying, “Your body is a temple”. In reality, your body is more like a galaxy, one that’s home to trillions of living organisms!

 

These organisms make up your gut microbiome, which is incredibly important for your health. If there is an imbalance, it could have a major impact on your overall well-being. And you’d be surprised at just how many things can affect that balance (alcohol, bad diet, antibiotics) and how fragile it is.

 

That brings me to the 5R GI restoration program.

 

As the name suggests, it’s all about restoring the health of your gastrointestinal tract.

 

It’s called 5R as there are 5 elements, each beginning with the letter “R”:

 

REMOVE bad bacteria from your gut. As you might expect, there are some bad apples among those innumerable bacteria. Eliminate them by removing irritants from your diet, including anything that might cause negative reactions. Some of the most common triggers include gluten, nuts, and fish.

 

REPLACE lost enzymes. Your body uses enzymes to break down the food you eat. If it doesn’t produce enough of them, it can’t digest as efficiently as it should and you may suffer negative consequences.

 

REINOCULATION introduces healthy bacteria back into the digestive tract. These bacteria support digestion and promote well-being. If their numbers have dropped, they must be reintroduced.

 

REGENERATE the cells in the digestive tract by introducing essential micronutrients and a balance of macronutrients. The GI tract is constantly regenerating and repairing itself and it relies on a healthy diet to keep ticking over.

 

RETAIN the healthy balance by continuing to adopt a positive diet and lifestyle, paying close attention to potential irritants and ensuring a steady supply of micronutrients.

 

As you can see, it’s a complete cycle that promotes a healthy digestive system and could lead to a host of benefits.

 

You can follow some of these steps yourself, such as introducing more micronutrients, eating more fiber, drinking more water, and exercising. But 5R is a very personal program, as everyone’s digestive system is unique and they all respond differently to certain foods and medications.
